Talk About a Day

The U.S. Open men's semis. Miami (FL) at Ohio State. Michigan at Notre Dame. Florida State at Oklahoma. Cardinals and Braves. Giants and Padres. And them some more. Talk about a day that will drain the batteries in your remote. even if you're a fan of one team, you can't help but feel moved to see what else is happening.

It continues on into the evening. Penn State and Alabama. The celebration in Cincinnati commemorating Pete Rose breaking Ty Cobb's hit record. NASCAR's final "regular season" race at Richmond. The U.S. Open women's final. And then some more.

Talk about a day...

Sports, as a whole, has always provided a means in which we can, in the words of Bill Joel, "forget about like for a while". Sports can soothe a soul. Sports provide a form of shelter. Sports produces happiness and, in some cases, heartache. Sports can create an escape. All are temporary. After the event is finished, life begins again.

The week after the attacks, I'm sure the majority of us still have some of these memories emblazoned in our minds.

I do not know of anyone that cannot recall where they were and what they were doing on this day nine years ago. Yes, it's been nine years. No matter how life plays out, 9/11/01 feels so much more recent.

I have a son-in-law that is currently serving in the Army. He has two brothers that both serve our great nation. One is a Marine, the other in the Air Force. I thank you and your fellow soldiers for all you do.

Talk about a day...

This is a day to remember the tragedy of the Twin Towers and those who lost their lives. This is a day to remember those who put their lives on the line for our safety. This is a day to never forget.

Yes, never forget.
