Another BCS Championship for SEC

Are you getting tired of the SEC seemingly winning every BCS Championship Game? Many that live around me are. In fact, they're tired of hearing about all the love the SEC receives, especially from the media.

But the conference deserves it. Hard to fathom a Big Ten guy such as myself stating such, but it's true.

Yes, it's tiresome to hear the likes of ESPN's Lou Holtz, Mark May, Kirk Herbstreit and the like continually beef the egos that occupy the SEC coaching ranks, but man can they play some football down south. They always seem to have at least a handful of schools ranked in the top 10 in recruiting classes year in, year out.

The BCS reared its ugly head (to many) in 1998. Many other ugly things have evolved within the BCS since then, but there are a couple of facts cannot be denied.

In the thirteen BCS Championship Games, the SEC has sent a team to the game seven times. Guess what record the SEC holds...7-0. They haven't lost. The SEC won the first ever BCS title game when Tennessee beat Florida State, 23-16. And they bookend that with Auburn's 22-19 victory last evening.

The last time an SEC school did not play in the championship game was the Rose Bowl thriller between Texas and USC. Yes, the Vince Young party.

The most any other conference has sent a representative to the title game is the Big 12 with seven, tying the SEC fir the most. But the Big 12's record isn't even close to that of the SEC's. The Big 12's record is meager 2-5. But the Big 12 is the only other conference that can boast of multiple wins.

The other BCS conferences: Big Ten, ACC, Big East and Pac 10 (soon to be the Pac 12) have all managed one win. The Big Ten has only had one team represent it every tim, Ohio State. They are 1-2 in BCS title games. The same holds true for the ACC and Florida State. Same number of appearances and same record.

One way many like to find a way to judge conferences against each other is by bowl records and/or records in bowls where the two conferences square off. It might be the closest way to do so, but no one can deny how successful the SEC has been when the big prize is on the line.

Just in case you think the Chizik hire was popular, here's a reminder.

I wonder where those hecklers of Gene Chizik and Auburn AD Jay Jacobs are today? That includes you, Charles Barkley!
