Monday Night Preview
Balitmore (4-4) @ Cleveland (1-7)
Ravens: One thing is for sure. The Ravens offense was bludgened by the Bengals defense last week. QB Joe Flacco (left) was sacked four times and the Ravens could only muster 215 total yards. RB Ray Rice accounted for 135 of those yards. You know where this is going. Rice has emerged as the man in the Ravens backfield. The only thing Flacco is missing is a bona fide downfield threat. This is the week to right the ship. Cleveland is dreadful defensively. Dreadful as in dead last overall. A lot of yards are on the horizon.
Where Baltimore has made its name is on defense. But there's something missing this season. That would be Rex Ryan. Love him or hatehim, his departure is felt. Here's some teams that have accumulated more sacks the the Ravens: Cincinnati, Arizona, Seattle. No of those teams are thought of as defensive powehouses. Having DT Haloti Ngata will stabilize the D line. His presence demands a double team and that opens up pass rushing lanes for shots at the QB.
Browns: QB Brady Quinn gets another shot as the starter. And he gets to start against the Ravens. Yipes! He never should have been benched to begin with despite his 62.1 QB rating. Quinn had two weeks to prepare for this nightmare, I mean, game. Maybe something will change. One thing that must change is scoring. The offense has scored a total of 5 TD. The New Orleans Saints secondary has that many! WR Joshua Cribbs (right) accounts for the other 2 TD with a punt and a kickoff returned for TD. He's also been used in the Wildcat. He is the Browns main threat to get in the endzone. And their only one.
As bad as Cleveland's been on offense, they are even more horrendous on defense. No one gives up more total yards than the Browns. Only 4 INT and 16 sacks. No pressure on the opposing QB and he will rip you apart. Cleveland does have a couple of bright spots on the D. LBs D'Qwell Jackson and Kamerion Wimbley. Jackson leads the Browns in tackles and Wimbley has produced 5 sacks. Got to start somewhere.
